Looking at this. I have one of the GroundWorks ones from TSC and its garbage. It snaps cotter pins repeatedly, and has a crappy plastic gearbox.

While I'd love to buy once and cry once with the Lesco spreader, I don't think I can afford it just now. I like the look of this one as its a metal gear driven spreader.

Does anybody have strong opinions one way or the other? Can I get a season out of it with commercial use?

Never had one of those, but check the agitator mechanism and how it operates. If it seems cheap and won't push product through the gate very well, then I'd pass.

Commercial use? Meaning you'll use more than once a day and on several days of the week. I'd invest a little more and get the Lesco.

I have the tow behind version of that. Its literally the same thing- just a hitch mount.

Its "okay"....

It was really bridging material when I was trying to spread lime/gypsum. Had to try another spreader.

Really good with grass seed and milorganite, and other granulate fertilizer though.
Im not sure I'd trust it for a season of commercial use, but as far as the more affordable ones, its probably about as good as it gets

We may have different definitions of unable to afford. If you're thinking it means I have the money and just don't want to spend it, that isn't the case, unfortunately.

There's another one just like this but the gearbox is enclosed I would buy that one. I will purchase this same brand but mine will be a tow behind spreader.

Gearbox enclosed and also plastic ... basically like what I have now.
