I’ve never burnt my back yard. I’ve got 2 neighbors that if it gets under the fence I could be in a bind. I’m going to next year though with some help from a fellow lawn enthusiast. He’s pissed that he can’t burn in the city he lives in 🤣
Oh yeah gotta watch for it spreading, I would just stay a few feet away and keep a hose handy.
Right, in some areas starting random fires on your property is frowned upon x)

Finally got around to scalping the front yard down to 0.5 inches. I’m starting to see some green up in the corner. 3-30 gallon bags of clippings, a tiny grass catcher, and mulch from the last storm made this suck but it’s done. I think it’s starting to stripe 😄

I showed your photos to my wife and explained what you did, she just did a face of disgust and said "why?"
😂
Yeah I have done some radical stuff for landscaping, weed and grass control but on a bigger property and with no neighbors...... this looks pretty crazy in a neighborhood with houses and plastic fences and spec trees and bushes?

The front lawn on fire I thought was an AI enhanced picture just for effect???

What does the excellerant and all the ash and soot do to the PH and soil??? Seems detrimental and toxic?

They do 20 to 50 acre burns here in Florida Parks (Oscar Scherer I lived next to for 3 years its about 1,400 acres) a few controlled and OUT of control pics) sometimes even the "pros" loose control of the "block" they are burning....

We have a 37,000 acre park they burn at also...... and those are monsterous 'blocks"

I think I see your neighbors plastic gym set melting in this one??? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I am sure you won't be making a habit outta this but for "Best Practices" on your next burn??? The 60:40 rule says you should burn with an air temperature of less than 60°F, a relative humidity greater than 40%, and a wind speed of 5-15 mph measured at six feet above the ground's surface

Good luck!!!

LOVE the battery powered reel mower that thing is awesome!!! I woudl have loved to drag six of them ganged behind my Johny Deere up in NY/LI or Pennsylvania on my hybrid perennial tri-rye. (My Piranha mowing deck was good with 6 blades but that unit looks fantastic!!!)

NOT gonna work in this 4 inch high St. Augustine WEED patch. This junk has deep roots that SURVIVE controlled burns!!!!!

Spent yesterday digging out the large concrete and masonry rocks out of the hill in my backyard in prep for the season. Maybe this is the year I’ll get the Bermuda to grow all the way up.
Today I started cutting the backyard at 0.5 inches and the effective HOC is much different than bench HOC. Blows my mind.

Spent a few hours pulling weeds and applied Moss Out to a spot that has been very damp over the past 2 weeks. Had some Moss Out lying around in the garage waiting to be used.

Rotary scissors were delivered before we left on vacation. New Ryobi trimmer was delivered while we were gone. (Thanks to my neightbor for grabbing packages while we were gone, but bad on the wife for saying the neighbor could wait 2 more days to give them to us.) Got the trimmer today and was able to assemle the trimmer, verify functionality, and swap the rotary scissors on.

May need to go to local hardware store & buy a grease gun & some grease for them.

You’ll love them! Keep it well lubricated

the "concrete" bermuda test pieces are at 2
weeks since transplant. I trimmed out some of
the excess brown/straw areas that didn't have
new growth. It seems much happier this week with remaing blades growing and new leafs popping out on all the pieces.
