Temperature has still been in the lows in the Michigan. I did a charity mow with the reel mower a couple weeks ago, but it hadn’t grown much at all.

Today I decided to run the dethatcher to help pick up sticks and fluff up the grass. Followed by a mow with the rotary to pick up the debris. I collected just one packed full bag from the front yard.

I don’t imagine I’ll be cutting the front within the next week. Temps are dropping back down to the mid 40’s but we’re getting a lot of rain.

I did start to remove all of the old mulch from the beds. I’ve only added mulch the past three years and it’s time to start from scratch.

I started to make small videos of the lawn in the past week. It’s always been something I’ve wanted to do but I’ve finally had the motivation. Below is a link if anyone is interested.

I’m still mowing about every 5 days in the front. I’ll be adding more seed to the bare spots this weekend.

I cut the backyard for the first time this weekend and it was rough! I let this go at the end of last year but intend to go back to using the reel mower.

Before and after the triple cut. I have ALOT of leveling work to do. I’m sure it’s always been this bumpy but it seems worse after this last winter.

If time permits this weekend, I want to dethatch and add sand.

Did my first ever sand leveling project nine days ago. I learned a lot and still need more sand later in the season.

Fast forward to today and I cut at .75in. Most everything has filled in.

I had some leftover Scott’s fertilizer with mesotrione, so I used that in the back. It’s killing off the poa spots.

I’ll be starting up my pgr regime very soon.

I use paramaxis MEC Pgr. A rate of .89OZ per 1k. I target 250GDD.

I haven’t used other pgrs such as TNEX, but it seems like the application rate for the suppression I want is higher. I’ve used this brand of Pgr for about two years.

It has been very dry the past couple weeks. However we got almost 4 inches of rain within 24 hours.

I missed a fungus application and it started creeping in the front yard. I applied a curative rate of propiconizal and Pgr a few days ago. It seems to be working.

Right before the rain I applied a foliar application of nitrogen. It had four hours to dry but I’m not too sure if it was washed away with the rain.

It is getting hot here in Michigan! It will be in the 90’s for the upcoming days.

I triple cut the backyard and double cut the front. Maintaining everything at .75in. The back came out of regulation so there was a lot of clippings. Especially since we’ve had over 4 inches of rain in the past three days.

You can tell that the backyard has slight heat stress and fungus. I did a spray mix of PGR, propi, insecticide, and nitrogen. I know this goes against all rules but I wanted to see if I get side affects and or bronzing. I talked to the superintendent at my work and they regularly spray nitrogen with pgr. I was apprehensive to follow his advice but he’s the expert. I can blame him when I get bad results 😂

I ended up following the online hype and buying some of the neighbors envy fertilizer. I know it’s overpriced the for the nitrogen amount per application, but the convenience is worth the price for me. Two kids under the age of two will do that to you. I’ll have a full review coming up.
