I get the whole mantra of "I started watching (insert YouTube personality) and started taking care of my lawn using their products and my lawn looks so much better now". So one would assume that their products work good and they know what they are talking about when in reality it was the fact that you actually started doing something to your lawn. People nowadays are so consumed with the name on the bag of the product they are putting down more so than what is in the bag, I am talking about the NPK and not the magic fairy dust they add in there(AKA Humic). I guarantee you could go buy a bag of 10-10-10 and put it on your neighbors lawn and as long as you are watering and mowing regularly it will look way better than if you did nothing at all. To the uninitiated or noob some of these guys on YT can come off as experts but it also comes down to once you know, you know and I don't understand why some people get all bent out of shape when they read negative things about their sacred cows and realize they are frauds or swindlers. If it was me I would be thankful as I am now wiser and can make better decisions going forward. I could go on and on about this subject as I do have a bias and an utter disdain for most YouTube lawn guys as they are pushing expensive (mainly due to shipping costs) products that you can find locally for half the cost.

I do watch Ryan Knorr on the regular just because he reel mows and does some other things outside the box but I feel his videos are a little over produced for my liking. I do watch a few Aussie guys like Lawn Tips, Lawn Porn and Aussie Lawn as they all do something different and keep things interesting.

Amen brother. This past year was my cheapest since I started taking care of my lawn. I bought a bag of 24-0-8, 5-0-30 and 10-10-10 and it was whatever I could find locally. I cut every 3 to 4 days and sprayed chelated iron twice during the growing season and my lawn was just as nice when I put down Carbon X, Super Juice, XSoil, PGF Complete and whatever the fertilizer flavor of the month was. I used to spend close to 1k annually but this year I barely broke $300 and my yard was just as nice.

I'm a little bit disappointed in how Ron's channel turned out. He's def in it to move product, and he's another one who now practices what he once preached against. There have been a few product recommendations that were "off-label" as well. Guy also makes a ton of videos/shorts, talking about HIS lawn, when his lawn is dormant. 😅 His brand of lawncare is rather unaffordable to most but there's still value in that and showing what -could- be done. But he's winging a ton of product and mowing with an Allett C-Series which sells for well north of $20k IIRC.

You should see his camera setup. To me, his lawn has never looked right since he overseeded it with Arden 15.

He was overseeding with Arden 15 annually, I think. Making his lawn a blend of Tif419 and A-15. I'm guilty of watching a short from time to time as well.

About 2 years ago I decided to get my yard in order. Mind you a have 3 acres. I started watching YT .Got some info and ordered product after watching Doc, soon after that I learned it would cost me an arm and a leg. Learned I can't level that much yard and can't I use a reel mower. Over the course of the year i did pick up some need-to-know info by combining the info from several YT lawn channels. My takeaways were soil test, the timing preemergent, applying correct NPK and amount, the correct cutting height, PGR's, fungicides and insecticides, weed killers and watering. I have common Bermuda and for cutting I have a Toro 52".I do have a sprinkler system around my house about a acre
All in all it cost alot of money to have yards like Doc and Ron and a lot of time. Heres my lawn after a year. On another note, I saw were the Grass Factor and Budget lawns got into it. Anyone else saw that?

Travis (budget lawns) is one of my favorite. Keeps me grounded.

BTW: 3 acres is totally doable with a reel as long as it's something like a Toro 3100, Deere 2653, etc.

I also like the Grass Factor podcast, early last year I learned about the increase in fertilizers increasing in price from their podcast, so I purchased my year's supply of fertilizers and saved a lot of money. Also close to where I live by is a large fertilizer company that has great lawn and plant fertilizers. A feed store close to me handles their products and I saved alot of money due to lack of shipping cost. Great products, company name Nelson's Color Star I think and also, I became a customer at Site One. Also, another great place to get products for your lawn at great pricing. But you need to have some kind of company to become a customer. I bought from Site One a product called Carbon Pro -G .It contains 47% Compost and 47% Biochar 9lb per 1,000. And at a reasonable price. This is a soil amendment. Could see great results in my lawn. Got off topic, sorry. Has anybody seen on YT a channel called Turf Truth? Very interesting channel, I would recommend watching that.

I haven't seen anything new; I went back today an watched all their videos. I'm convinced that everybody should watch before they waste their money. I'm guilty of being a victim of some of the products lawn YT sites push. Best one or should I say was liquid aeration, but in my defense, I was new to lawn care and thought these guys were trusted. I'm not saying you don't believe them; just do your research before you waste your money.

There is plenty of info on this site and state extensions/universities... you do not need to watch any videos.
Warm Season Lawns- Soil test, pre-emergent, celsius, certainty, NPK (cheap stuff). Add other cheap stuff your soil test says you need (Lime, micronutrients etc Water in the morning, don't overwater because fungus stuff gets expensive Buy local and cheap, stay away from the "magic" expensive stuff. Spend your money on the cool stuff, blowers, reels, trimmers, etc; Make sure you smash that like button!

I hope they are coming back. It seems to be a coincidence that a select group took a different approach to their video's.
Less on the "Science" more on their life around them and not "as" focused on the lawn topics.

Still sticking to the 90+ lawn subs on Youtube and sadly growing
