Winter Overseed

I am starting to look at a winter overseed. Is there a reason to use perrenial rye, and not annual? Is the Perennial a finer blade? It seems that the annual would potentially die about the same time Bermuda comes out of dormancy, negating the need to spray it dead.

The 5 iron perennial rye from united seed is good. A little pricey though.
5 iron huh? Ill have to look into it. Not a cool season guy at all so im not sure which cultivar was commonly known for being the softest/plushest kind.

I wouldn't get too caught up in the name on the bag. I think the blends can vary some from year to year - even under the same label name like "Champion GQ". Also at the end of the day I would say pretty much any decent PRG blend is going to look amazing against a backdrop of dormant warm season grass.

Following along as I'm seriously considering giving this a go as well. I do have some reservations about not being able to put down a fall pre emergent though.
I was also worried about no pre emergent. I asked @Thor865 in a post last year, and he said not to worry, whatever does grow will get sprayed out in the spring. He was right. I had very few weeds grow in during the fall and winter and then just sprayed out whatever along with the rye with some msm turf. It did take a couple rounds, some heat, and some drought to finally kill 100% of the rye though. Also, don't forget you spring pre emergent.

Thanks for that. Wasn't aware. (No pun intended lol) And yeah I know it'll look amazing, I've just never felt rye before.....ever. so I have no clue how the foot feel is with it or how soft it is compared to like Bermuda or Zoysia
