Hi Everyone! I'm new to the forum and a total lawn care novice. I inherited a zoysia lawn with I house I purchased, but I don't know what type of zoysia it is. Can anyone help me identify the type?

PS...I know it's not mowed low enough in the pictures, but it's the best my old rotary mower would do. I've just acquired a Tru-Cut C27 that will do much better! :D

I would guess either Jamur or Empire, but it is definitely a zoysia japonica cultivar. You might check the sod farms near you to see what cultivars are available. If there is only one, then you will have probably found your answer.

To my eyes, it looks like healthy Zoysia japonica. El Toro, Emipre, Jamur, Compadre, or Zenith if it was seeded. I am with @Spammage see what the local sod farms have. Seeded Zoysia is not that common. It is very slow to germinate and the grow in for it is kind of rough.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! From what I'm seeing online, it seems like Empire and Zenith are definite possibilities. I've learned from one of my neighbors that it was definitely sod, not seed. I'm reading that the leaf width of Empire is wider than Zenith. Mine definitely has pretty wide leaves (in the 5-7mm range I'm reading about for Empire), so I'm thinking that may be the more likely type.

I've found quite a few local sod farms that have Empire. It's not 100% exclusive, but it's definitely the most popular option around.

Looks very close to El toro, but it's so hard to tell them all apart. I know my guy up the street with Empire and it is almost like a pale green. I don't really know how to describe it but it's like it needs some fertilizer 😆
