It looks like quackgrass from your picture of a few blades or could be a rough stalk bluegrass (poa trevialis) being larger patches of lighter color from your description. I've had the same issue in some areas of my lawn, and tenacity helped if you can get your hands on it. The other way is to pull it/ dig it out, unfortunately. I did this in some larger spots of my yard. Careful if you plant seed mixes from big box stores, many times sun/shade mix has the poa in it as it does well in shade.

Nutsedge.

Sulfentrazone or halosulfuron (sedge hammer ). The easiest thing to find is propably the ortho brand sedge killer and it's already mixed. I've never seen halosulfuron already mixed as I think it has a short shelf life in water. Sulfentrazone works faster in my opinion.
