Any ideas what is going on with my grass? It is really long and when raked will peel right off the ground.

A lot of times when you see grass like that which kind of pulls up when raked it's creeping bentgrass. From the pics though I'm not sure. Almost looks like fine fescue that hasn't been cut for a while and has fallen over. Is it just that area or is the hole lawn like that?

There are several areas around the lawn, I mow 2 times a week. But these areas have always looked different

Is it a relatively new lawn? How much thatch is there? If the roots are largely in the thatch, that would explain why it pulls up so easily.

its a 27 year old lawn, not sure about the thatch, will have to check it out.

My 20 some year old lawn does this on the east side of the house too. I let it die and then seed with new cultivars. Kind of like a mini renovation each fall.

One day the entire east side of the house will be all desirable TTTF!!

That's creeping fescue rooting in its own thatch. I removed some from my yard last season, rolled right up like a rug.
