I'm at that point of the year, its sunny out, warm, and I want to do more than mow. My yard is by no means perfect, I'd like to throw some overseed on but everyone says wait till fall as now is a waste of $. Anyways, I've raked up all the thatch etc and I mow high. I haven't applied anything other than Milo about 5 weeks ago.

People constantly state you just "feed" and water your lawn. What am I feeding with? Should I just apply more Milo?

If you have means to keep it irrigated, then Milo at bag rate. Otherwise I would do half bag rate or none. This year we skipped spring and went to summer heat. Feeding the lawn will force grow and the need for more water.

To me it is a balance between feeding to improve the thin areas vs. not creating a stressed lawn.

I am currently providing both the front (PRG) and back (KBG) lawn with monthly applications of 5-3-2+trace elements at 100g/sqm, literally chicken manure. Both lawns are getting 15mm of water twice a week, which helps both soak it in and stink the neighborhood out. Everything looks happy at the moment, mainly focusing on building up the soil with organics. YMMV.

Yea, this is something I am interested in knowing too.

I applied some Scotts Corn Gluten Meal a couple of weeks ago...but I DO want to continue to use some sort of feed other than just water.

Does adding some top soil or compost, on occasion make sense?

Will adding more fertilizer burn my grass? (since I already added CGM).

Compost, cracked corn, alfalfa are all fine

Thanks.

My bro used a bag of Scotts Turf Builder Lawn Food 30-0-3.

Any opinions on this stuff?

Kinda worried that cracked corn or alfalfa will attract rodents. But if it's much better than the Scotts stuff, then I'd do it.
