I think it would be interesting to see what everyone's goals are for their lawn. I am especially interested in those who we feel already have perfect yards like @Ware or @Redtenchu .

I will go first.

Short term

-finish the season at .500 hoc. Just got done leveling and will be getting a greens mower
-backyard to fill in completely by the end of the growing season.
-make it through my first summer without yard turning brown.

Long term

-want to get down to .250-.300 hoc in front
-back maybe a little higher but want to make a small soccer field for my daughter.
-in ground irrigation system

So what are your goals?

- fix all the low areas
- then fix them again
- once there all fixed and lawn is not technically level but a gradual slope, mow area in backyard beside patio at a putting green hoc of .125 daily

- rest of yard at .3 hoc

Don't kill it.

Actually I'm just doing what I can without breaking the bank or aggravating my wife too much. Next up I think is some leveling, as now that I went to .50, every pipe underground is visible as a settled trench.

Thanks, but my lawn is far from perfect.

Short term (this season).
-Keep things simple.
-Enjoy it.
-Find a smaller prill fertilizer that can replace Milo.
-Fill/Level the "construction area" of my lawn.

Long Term (2-3 seasons out).
-Irrigation.
-Renovation.

This is my current train of thought. I've gotten some stink eye when I bring up things that cost more than a few $. To her if the grass is green and the kids can play on it, it's fine

I'd like to level but it's too hot outside so that'll likely wait for early next spring.

This season
-Get a good solid stand of bermuda back in my back yard(possibly put down some TifTuf sod)
-Eliminate weeds and maintain a pre emergant barier to prevent more
-order some Penterra to help drainage issues (Thanks @Redtenchu I was poking around yesterday and found this)
-hopefully add power rotary scissors to equipment collection!!!

Long term (probably next season)
-continue good practices to achieve having a fairway for a lawn.
-level back yard, it needs it
-lower HOC to 1/2" after level
-Start working on a centipede to bermuda transition in the front yard

I found this site last year and began putting into practice what I learned from everyone here.

  • Got wife approval for a reel, so as soon as that is in, start cutting with that and work toward something below .5
  • Start PGR T-nex with GDD model this season to get lateral growth and reduce mowing freq.
  • Get backpack 20v sprayer with teejet nozzles for PGR, Micronutrients, and Prodiamine.
  • Next year landscape blade, and possibly irrigation with Rachio controller.
Basically I want it weed free, healthy, under control (PGR), smooth, and low.

Everyone says level the yard so I'm going to say it to
1) level yard and watch wife loose it lol lol
2) fill in thin spots
3) find a smaller pill size as well that's not so stinky.
4) fix compacted areas

Long term
1) triplex
2) get a top dresser
3) renovation of my "field of dreams

1. Get the main front yard filled back in from the winter kill.
2. Continue the backyard reno and baby it to get the few bare spots and heavily weedy areas filled in.
3. Seed my small 160ish SqFt side lawn with some Yukon this weekend followed up with a fall seeding of this.
4.Profit?
