That is most likely sun scald. Is it on the south west side of the tree? There's not much you can do about it at this point.
What’s wrong with crab apple tree?
Our prairie rose crab apple was planted about six years ago, but for the last three the bark has been shedding and last year the leaves were half the normal size. Any idea what it is suffering from and how to treat?
