So sitting at work stirring right now my wife just sent me a photo of this bug in our soil around the garden edges where she dug up. She said they are everywhere. Cannot figure out what they are or find anything online that looks anything like it but we are located in Kawartha Lakes Ontario.

Moths or butterfly larve. Armyworms/cutworms. You may want to treat for pests and some will feed on your grass' roots causing damage that spreads across the lawn.

Looks like army worm pupae. Ref;

having had a lawn decimated by these I would definitely start treating now. I’m not sure how effective treatments are in this stage of its life cycle, but for me, I’d start now and keep up on it!
Now is the perfect time to put down an application of Grub Ex. (chlorantraniliprole)
and then I'd definitely follow that up with an application of something with merit or trichlorfon later this summer.

Tractor supply has Grub Ex on sale for $25/ 5,000 right now. That was the cheapest I could find it. I just applied it yesterday too. there is also a $5/bag mail in rebate offer now too.
