Hi all, so I purchased 1.5 oz bottle of Negate to help with my Poa problem. Couple questions since this would be the first time using this post-M.

1) The label says "Do not apply to turf less than 1 year old." I purchased my sod (tahoma31 Bermuda) in May 2022. Here's a pic of the sod at that time. It's not been quite a year, but based on how the sod looked when it was delivered I'd think it had probably been growing for at least a couple months prior. Do you think I'm OK to use the Negate now?

2) I plan to blanket spray my 10K sqft (in a tank mix that also includes Resolute 65 WG Prodiamine aka generic Barricade), which means I'd only need to use about .34 oz of the Negate product in the tank mix. I'd like to store the remainder of the Negate pre-mix and then re-apply (as needed) at least 4 weeks later. Problem is I can't find any instructions on the label regarding how long the pre-mixed product can store for etc. It does state "7. NEGATE 37WG spray preparations are stable if they are pH neutral or alkaline and stored at or below 100oF." Anyone know?

Thanks all for the advice!

1) I think you are safe to spray it whenever you want.

2) I don't think the pre-mix will keep that long and if it does I'm sure it will lose some of it's effectiveness. You could always mix up a small batch and let it sit for 4 weeks and see how it works compared to a fresh batch if you really wanted to test it out.

The issue that I have with Negate is that it's essentially 2 physical herbicides (MSM + Rimsulfuron) whose granules are mixed together in this one bottle. That's why the label says you need to pour the entire container (1-acre worth) into solution, and then grab what you need from there. I have no idea how long that pre-mix can be stored though, I wonder if Quali-Pro would be of assistance there? I am aware of the higher carrier pH that sulfonylureas prefer but I understood that to be mostly a dispersion reason - it will settle out in lower pH carrier water. That's what they're referring to on that label about being stable in alkaline water.

The pre-mix is good for 30 days. I can't remember if I found that on the label or if it's a question on Do My Own. I used it last season with good results.
I just checked the DoMyOwn Q&A for Negate and it says any mix should be used within 24 hours but if you had success with it sitting for 30 days, you might be on to something.

Thanks, all. I'll see what's still alive 3-4 weeks after my first spray, and I'll hit 'em again with some of the remaining pre-mix.

As @corneliani points out, with Negate the need to mix the acre rate seems to be due how they've prepped their active ingredients. Going forward I think I'll look at other options if I continue to need post-M for poa, given I'm only dealing with 10K and really only spots within that.

It worked OK for me. I get conflicting answers on the time it's good for. In one place on do my own it says 24 hours but the first question answered in the product page states for about a month. I used it last year. Probably won't use it again. To many other options out there.

I have used Negate for the past two years with great success on winter weeds. I mix it in 1 gallon of distilled water, which I really feel extends the efficacy to several months. I mix it up in late October and include with my specticle and simazine pre em. I have very few weeds except I did get some poa around the edges. I sprayed prodiamine, simazine and Negate in mid-February and the Negate was still effective (see the below pic).

I’ve used Negate in the same way. 6 months distilled water and it absolutely crushed my POA.

Btw I got a chance to ask a Quaii-Pro rep about this exact thing and he said that 2 weeks storage is what he's been taught. He did admit that he's seen folks store the mixture for months without any visible loss of efficacy.

His recommendation is to mix one bottle of negate in 1 gallon of DISTILLED WATER, and spray that solution at 3oz/1000.

@corneliani - I spoke to the same rep and he told me the same thing. He did add that they have not done any studies on how long the product is stable in distilled water. Based upon my experience and on @tjtennispro 's experience, it can last several months.

Mine was premixed in the fall with distilled water and I no longer have tons of POA. I don’t think it’s loses efficacy at all but I’ll say it’s still 97% effective to be safe.
