I have a medium sized oak tree in my front yard that has some exposed roots breaking through the soil about 2-3" What is the best solution to dealing with this?
Well...you can always do what I did and cut down the tree.
Besides cutting down the tree you could shave down the top of the exposed roots to just below the soil level. I've done that before and then leveled with top soil or sand to cover them. Honestly though that only really helps with mowing. The grass over those roots will always struggle until the wood is removed entirely.
Appreciate it fellas, I shaved down the top of the roots and decided if the tree does not survive I will just cut it down! I cut the canopy very high so the Bermuda does fairly well under the tree, but not perfect like in full sun.
