Today the mower started acting funny. If the reel lever was disengaged then the drum would engage and drive/move forward. If I engaged the reel lever, the mower would just sit still when I engaged the drive. Hope that makes sense. Could it be a belt problem? Or something worse

I actually had something similar happen to me last week with my GM 1600. It was functioning properly, then I used it to stripe the lawn (without the reel engaged). When I went to use it a few days later, I engaged the reel and the unit wouldn't move. It turned out that I didn't torque the reel pulley/drive assembly when I reassembled the unit this past winter and it came unscrewed from the reel. I screwed it back in, placed a piece of wood in the reel to lock it in place, and then torqued it to specs.

@ColinNJ welcome to the forum and thanks for sharing your experience!

More importantly, create a Journal over at the Cool Season Lawns Forum so we can see that reel mowed lawn of yours.
