I did my KBG renovation this fall and things are filling in mostly, but there are clearly areas where I got some rain washout or where the sprinklers didn't sufficiently water.

I was planning on doing some plug transplanting in the spring, but I have an itch to do it now, since I planted the small test pots I grew and those have already started to spread after only a week.

I think that's it is better for me to wait until spring so my grass can establish better for the winter. Am I right? Or should I go ahead and do some pluggin' now?

I find it's best to do plugging right before the grass is going to be a period of vigorous growth. This makes the best times early spring and right around Labor Day weekend. You're late to catch the best of the fall weather, but you're far enough south in Wisconsin that it might not be too late if you did it right away this weekend.

Personally, though, if you're talking about doing this on your 2017 renovation, I'd be inclined to wait until spring. If it were an established lawn, I'd go for it now, but on a new renovation, I'd be inclined to wait until spring, as you'll benefit from letting the grass plants get a bit bigger before cutting pieces off of them!

Good advice K&N! I am waiting until just before the spring flush next year to do any transplanting on my reno. Next spring/early summer is when you will see more spreading from the new KBG as well.
