Is it too late for a light sand leveling? Here in north Texas, we have 90s forecasted through end of September.

You should be ok but it's more a case of hours of sunlight as opposed to temperature for your grass to grow through the sand.

My suggestion would be to wait.
I once leveled my lawn in mid-August and it struggled to fill in completely before the cooler temps rolled in.
Before that, I'd leveled in June and July, and both times my lawn completely filled in within 2 to 3 weeks.
But that's just me.

I level in August and it's filled in by September. With the temperature you have it should not be a problem
You will be okay, I have a Lawn Leveling Company in Austin and I have a few projects I'm doing this week. I have found that if you use strait mason sand, the recovery time is pretty quick. I would suggest that you laydown some Scotts Starter Fertilizer a few days before you spread your material or right after you scalp your yard first. It should come back in time. I won't do any leveling projects after the 20th of this month as I don't want any of my clients to have a beach over the fall/winter....LOL Unless they are over seeded with PRG.
