I couldn't find a solid answer on this out there. I live in Dallas and have St Augustine. Is it too late to apply preemergents? Is that even a thing? I realize it may be past the optimal time to apply, but it won't hurt anything, right?

Also, awesome forum you guys have here. I have a great deal to learn from you all.

You mention math, is there risk to damage the lawn like a postemergent? Sorry for all the questions but I am a first time home owner here.

Yes, overdosing Prodiamine can cause root pruning. If you are using Prodiamine 65 WDG, the max annual application rate for St. Augustine is 0.83 oz per thousand square feet per year. You will want to divide that by the number of applications you plan to make.

To much of anything is bad for you.
Depending on what kind of pre emergent you bought will determine the amount you supposed to put on your lawn.
Granular pre-emergent vs Liquid pre emergent.
Let us know what you have and people can help you with the rate you need to put it down.

I will not be giving you any advice on this!
I just overdosed pre-emergent :D on my lawn

I personally use granular on spreader setting 6. Where I buy my landscape supplies they are kind enough to write it on the bag for me.

I put that as well as Atrazine down today for somebody who has done no other treatments to his lawn this year.

I've got the liquid pre-emergent from https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004GTQBEK. I assume I will want to make 1 application this spring and then at least 1 more in the fall. Maybe two? So a total of 3 applications. I will need to measure my lawn to determine the exact sq ft. But my lot size is .25 acres or 10.8k sq ft minus a house sq ft of 1900 and driveway + patio. For easy math, I plan to assume ~8k of lawn sq ft. I purchased some blue dye marker for my post-emergent spray, but will likely use it for the prodiamine as well.

I definitely don't want to overdose and cause root pruning because I do already have grub issues. I have applied Scott's GrubEX already to rid myself of those. Additionally, poor drainage and soil compaction has cultivated I believe fungus or "brown patch" that is taking certain areas of the lawn that sit in water from heavy showers. I have also ordered a Propiconazole based fungicide https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004Q7430Q for help there. I plan to core aerate somewhere down the line...maybe in ~7 wks when I make the next application of Milo.
