So I helped my dad pick up a pallet of tif 419 over the weekend, and put it down the way he wanted it which was simply throwing it down on the ground, watering it some, and then smashing it down. Some was over some existing Bermuda and other was in some bare spots.. As far as watering, we got well over an inch of rain Saturday so it's pretty wet. As far as watering, is it better to keep the sod really wet, or just damp? I don't want him to not put enough water on it, but at the same time I don't want him to overwater and it cause any issues (if it would)

Keep it damp for first 2-3 weeks until sod roots to underlying soil. You can check by simply lifting a corner and you'll see the white roots. Overwatering is bad and will cause the sod to die or take longer to root in. After it is rooted good (can't be pulled up by hand) slow down your watering to an inch a week. This will tell the roots to go deeper for water and give your sod a better root system. I am on week 3 1/2 of my sod being put down and this is what I followed.

Also putting sod down on existing grass isn't good as when the grass below dies it will emit heat and could damage or kill the sod above.

Tough to over water I think. If the ground is mushy and past saturation, too much water. Just put enough down to keep the sod wet throughout the day. Whatever that takes.
