Ticked off the bluegrass

For this year I was planning on lowering the cut to 2". So with the grass growing after a couple of weeks of warm weather, I cut to 2.5" and then a few days later down to 2". This was Saturday. Well it really didn't like that, and it turned a splotchy lime-green-yellowish color overnight. Ooops  . Should I just leave it be or try some iron? How long for color recovery?

It will recover with time. Keep mowing it short over and over and eventually it will get used to it. Could it be a heavy thatch layer your scalping?
For what it's worth, I just got the same response from my fescue when cut at 3 inches-in isolated spots, though.
If you keep the mowing height consistent, new shoot growth (7-14 days) will fix the issue.
Great, thank you all. I'll just be patient.

Here is my fescue. Unlike j4c11, my fescue did not have a gradual transition in height. Mine went from approx 6 - 7 inches down to 3-in a single cut. It was unavoidable.

Here are some pictures. I've tried to capture the yellowish discoloration as well as some closer pics of the blades. This is five days after the mow. Should I simply be patient as well? I put N down less than a month ago.

Yup, the sun hasnt been hitting the lower spots so it's discolored.

^ this.

My little experiment:

- June: circle around playset down to 1.5" from 3" - pic
- July: maintained 1.5" circle, surrounding grass is at 3.5" - pic
@ericgautier very cool of you to link those pictures. Nothing convinces better than seeing that recovery over time.
