Hi guys,

Just an newb idea. I'd be interested in your feedback

I was wondering about those shoes you see everywhere with nails at the bottom... but before you throw anything  i wasnt thinking for aerating purposes! (we already core aerate certain times of year) rather to get seed soil contact.

Particularly to get seed soil contact at times of the year when there is weed pressure so we don't want to be pulling up that much bare soil as core aeration does, nor do we want to be hard raking all the surface and organic matter away, instead just want to punch through the top layer of hard soil and organic matter (mulched bits etc) and give the grass seeds places to land. For thin spots or over seeding. I'm thinking similar principal to slit seeding.

Dumb idea?

This is turf type tall fescue in the transition zone (nothings easy)

ive personally thought of that same thing and actually purchased those shoes as well (2 pair) and i would not recommend them for. the spikes on the shoes always seemed come loose. if i was able to get penetration in to the soil, the straps/buckles would always come loose and the "aerator" shoe would be stuck in the ground.

i ultimately decided to get some pvc, 3" nails and and old handle from a poly lawn roller and made something that essentially did the same thing. it has worked much better than the shoes. just my 2 cents. may be someone else has had a better experience with those shoes?

So I was sent some GoPPA aerator shoes. Very high quality, no broken nails or clips.

The issue is walking in them is really tough on top of that it would be painfully slow to walk in a way to make sure you get full coverage.

That's all I would need to wear out there.....my neighbors think I'm nuts already! Beer in my hand dancing around the yard cursing wearing what would probably look like high heeled shoes from a distance

Thanks for all the feedback, everyone!

Maybe something like this would work well? https://tinyurl.com/yctk5oja

I use my green works dethatcher before seeding to get up dead grass and weeds to prepare a nice seedbed.
That looks perfect to me, thanks. The only thing that makes me nervous is that these sorts of things don't get great reviews on Amazon. Also true for Seed Stitcher or the Agri-Fab 45-0365 16-Inch Push Spike Aerator

Thanks I'll take a look.
