I had some unexpected grasses turn up that google insisted was St Augustine, but I'm in New York and thought that was unlikely.

My best guess is that this is coarse fescue and I am SOL, right? No way to get rid of it without torching large portions of the lawn?

This was my first full year of DIY and my lawn looks much better than it did in the past, but there are still trouble spots, including a lot of this...

I'm ready for a total reseed...

This looks like that dastardly K-31 tall fescue.
QUESTIONS: Is it formed like a clump ?
Does it stay sort of a light to medium green?
Is its growth sort of a splayed, 45-degree angle from the base? (not riding straight up 90 degrees from the soil line ?)
And finally, along the blade, does it have sort of ribbed, corduoroy lines running the length of the shaft ?
THAT describes K-31.
I h a t e K-31.

I have tried to culturally "manage" (low mow; fertilize during hot summer) it out of my zoysia.
If you have isolated clumps, dig it out OR try clippering it to soil level. You know the alternative…Roundup.
