Thickening up Glyphosate Mixes for Cotton Glove Method?

As per thread title - have any of you come up with some way to thicken or gel up a Gly mixture for the Glove or Paintbrush methods?

I've tried putting together a "super killer" mix to deal with Tree of Heaven and some other plants, but the landscaping layout doesn't give me a lot of clearance for drippage. Even with surfactant I'm getting drips when I brush the mix onto leaves.

I tried seeing if styrofoam might get dissolved by the various ingredients of the mix and then gel up, but no success there. Several different goog searches suggest using food thickeners like corn starch, or wallpaper adhesive powder. Even found a patent that covered using an industrial ingredient from cosmetics!

Hoping some of us might have come up with a homemade solution

I poured some Roundup concentrate in a little jar of foaming soap and shook it up. I got the idea from a video GCI made about that greenshoot product. I then put on some latex gloves and used it to kill off some grassy weeds in my cold season lawn. It kind of worked, a lot died, I need to keep on it.

I didn't dilute the soap at all, but in hindsight, it might be a good idea.

Have you seen the Round Up has a gel stick? I just noticed it last week and bought one to try. It was like $8 on Amazon and supposed to treat 1000 weeds. It can be a little annoying using the stick (think stick of deodorant) but I will probably gut the container next time and use just gloves. Probably still more cost effective to thicken your own concentrate though.

I tried the round up stick on 7/8/24 and it hasn’t killed anything yet. Haven’t done the math to see how strong it is, but in its defense, I only painted the parts of dallis grass that were taller than my SA two days before mow. I’m starting to think this is more geared towards bare weeds in mulched ornamental beds than trying to hit weeds in turf.

I have seen the stick - I have one or two in the lawn chemicals bin at home. As others have pointed out it's a pain to try and use on grassy weeds within the lawn. When using it, I had a hard time applying enough to kill the target grassy weed without over-applying and killing surrounding grass.

Maybe xanthum gum?
Gonna order some and give it a try! Will report back.
