Termites or Carpenter Ants

331 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Joeylom
I have something eating the window trim on my brick house. I thought the pine trim was rotting, but I noticed the pattern of wood holes and bugs inside are either termites or carpenter ants. What do you think? I dusted DE on the wood in the below photo.

Termites are skinny, ants are fat. I don’ t see any tunneling. My vote is ants, based upon fuzzy picture.

I would suggest “does not matter because cypermethryn kills both”

BIG difference if termites vs ants. I will take ants any day. You can have the termites.

Cypermethrin will control both, but termites will require a soil drench in a trench vs ants a surface soil drench will usually do the trick.
Update: It is in fact termites (even though I had inspect for them 8 months ago) likely minor damage and was caught early.
