As mentioned elsewhere, I'm completely reworking my front yard. I've re-graded it and have no topsoil at all right now. I'm going to be bringing in topsoil in the next week.
My plan is to install Zoysia sod, but it's apparently too late in Raleigh NC (zone 7b) to put it down this year. So, I need to put down something to ensure that I still have topsoil come spring. I'm sure my neighbors would also prefer something other than bare dirt too.
I've read numerous articles on seeding with annual rye, but I get conflicting messages about how suitable it is for this purpose. Several articles suggested that in some places it doesn't die off in the springtime and can interfere with new grass.
Can anyone provide insights as to the suitability of rye for this purpose in this location? Are there other, better options?
