Tea Tree Oil As Fungicide

So, obviously this post would apply to either very small lawns for spot spraying, or in my case, growing your own bermuda plugs indoors in a greenhouse. Has anybody had experience using Tea Tree, or other essential oils as a fungicide? I read about it online and it's claimed to be effective. However.. I used the prescribed rate in a small spray bottle on my plugs and it looks like it has burned the leaf blades. They suggested a teaspoon per cup of water. Thoughts?

All oils work as a fungicide and insecticide through suffocation of the target organisms. Simply put: The turf survives if the oil wicks off in a reasonable amount of time, or burns if the oil sits too long. Depending upon oil purity, humidity, and temperature. When using pure horticultural oils it is best to observe the 85/85 rule. Do not apply if either temperature or humidity is above 85. I would be leery using essential oils or anything not purely intended for use on plants.

Yep @mowww since typing this, it's apparent I've already learned the hard way. : /

So what about using Tea Tree as a preventative, right after I've sown seed? I'm looking to start more bermuda plugs in 2" jiffy pots, that fit my Proplugger. Seems like I'm always dealing with mold right before germination.

Wow, you don't say. Lol. Um, yeah, I know fungicides exist bro. Haha. I just have some essential oils already and wanted to give them a try for my plugs, for a more organic solution I guess. But thanks for the reminder...

I forgot to mention that the dilution rate seems a bit high as well which may have been a contributing factor. Check out suffoil x or ultra pure oil (same ad civitas) and their labels, they might provide some strong agronomically vetted rates. Sorry to hear about the burn.

I mean, you could put an axle through an octagonal block and force it to roll I guess.

Which oils would you say are the MOST essential? I can never get a good answer, but I feel like grapefruit should definitely be one of them.

That's not an accurate analogy. Oils are one of the most broadly utilized products in professional horticulture, have next to no resistance potential, and for some organisms are the most effective solution.

It's all about having the right oil at the right time.

Ok @mowww thanks for the helpful comment. Ya know, live and learn. It is bermuda, so I'm guessing it will make a full recovery.

Neem Oil works for sure
It sure does. It got rid of lacebugs on my azaleas. Too bad this isn't the azalea or lacebug thread.
I was agreeing that sometimes oils can be helpful and giving an example. If you've got fungus issues, fungicides are the way to go.
