All, for some time I've been curious about the spring grass stem/seadhead phenomenon. More particularly, this year my renovation area that seems to have suffered.

Last fall I killed the back and planted KBG/PRG...good stuff from Seed SuperStore. Last fall and this spring the yard looked amazing. All was great until a few weeks ago when it took on a brown haze. Upon inspection it looks like most of the grass leaves died and the stiff stems remain. Now, I racked my brain trying to figure out why this might be.

We had plenty of rain...the lawn was fertilzied...I was mowing at 3in.

It has since started to recover after a fertilizer app. I don't know if this was new grass struggling during a normal spring reproduction phase or if it had too much rain or something entirely different.

Anyhow, long rant, just looking for info on spring grass reproduction (very stemmy grass) and new grass or any thoughts on this post

Thanks!
