I’ll be using a dingo tiller attachment so it looks like up to 6” depthTo some degree. Depends on how deep you’re going with the tiller.
oxadiazon and simazine are the way.
Yes. I applied a 1/4 rate app on 3/8/23 and was planning on a second app mid April, but I can forego that to have a better chance at sprigging success. I also did my 1/2 rate app of prodiamine early February.More sprigs, means faster grow in.
If you’re gonna start late in the growing season and/or if you’re growing season is shorter than maybe double up on sprigs..
I did 200 bushels for 7000 sqft. Another year I used a dethatcher to harvest from my 7000 area to plant 4500. The second one was fully established in 8-10 weeks if I recall correctly.
Are you trying to sprig into an active specticle app?
go heavy. you'll be glad you did later on. We used 40 bushels / k last year when we converted our greens from tifdwarf to tifeagle. my first 5 greens were done at 35, and we upped it to 40 after that..i noticed that the batches done at 40 were 7-12 days ahead when talking about total coverage.I’ll be using a dingo tiller attachment so it looks like up to 6” depth
I do use Simazine in the fall/winter, but also prodiamine and now specticle in the rotation as well. That’s good to know though for the future.
Second question. I plan on getting 1-2 pallets which would either be 8 or 16 bushels per 1k. Would 2 pallets be overkill?
I’ll go on the heavy side then. Will I be good to go with throwing down starter fertilizer, tilling the sod to make the sprigs (putting the sod pieces down about 3ft apart across the entire area),and then rolling it? I’ll probably do 2-3 rounds of glyphosate beforehand to make sure everything is deadgo heavy. you'll be glad you did later on. Thanks for mentioning that. I’d forgot to put that in my response to him@viva_oldtrafford
I haven’t sprigged into indaziflam. I’m assuming the tilling action will help the OP break up the barrier. I see no reason for a second app. Am I missing anything?
Did you till it in or just spread them on top?I did this on top of a prodiamine application last year, and it worked great.
I did not apply specticle to any of my newly sprigged areas last year - some areas had been established (full) for 3-4 months...had a few reps- 2 from Bayer - tell me to skip the app on those areas. If you want a pre em on sprigs, it's Ronstar or nothing.@viva_oldtrafford

I’m going to do a test on about 1-2,000sq/ft first and see the results and go from thereI did not apply specticle to any of my newly sprigged areas last year - some areas had been established (full) for 3-4 months...had a few reps- 2 from Bayer - tell me to skip the app on those areas. as far as breaking the barrier...not sure. try and find out! tilling and the copious amount of water required may neutralize the stuff already on the ground
Yeah I’m working off a 1/2 rate app of prodiamine early February and 1/4 rate app of specticle about 2 weeks ago. Will give it a go on the small section before going all out in case it failsI used 3 pallets for approx 10k and was happy with the coverage. Tilling will open up for weeds but I used Celsius at 2 weeks after sprigging if memory serves right. Label addresses sprigs. It’s worth leveling as much as you can prior to sprigs.
I’m just north of Houston, but yes black clay. I have a groomer on my Toro Flex I use to verticut and I do need to aerate as well. I found a reciprocating aerator near me I plan on renting to aerate.Could verticut soon to help break it down? Do you need to aerate also? I figure you’re on clay in Houston?
My mom is in Houston and about to build in Bryant. Sounds like you have time and options. Just need that pre em to bust.I’m just north of Houston, but yes black clay. With as small of an area as I’m going to test out, I might just go heavy water/Fert and just throw the sprigs down with sand top dressing and roll it smooth. See how that fight the pre emergent barrierMy mom is in Houston and about to build in Bryant. Sounds like you have time and options. Just need that pre em to bust.
I tilled it in, then used a spike roller to smooth it out.Did you till it in or just spread them on top?
