What do y'all do to combat the extra fertilizer that spreaders leave in the bottom? I precisely measure out how much fertilizer I plan on using. But the cotter pin agitator sits up to high to hit some of the fertilizer so it won't push it to the holes.

I have the Earthway 2150. My current method, is to close the valve, jar the whole spreader a bit so the fert. is over the holes, reopen the valve and continue.

Is there a better way? Any easy modifications?

I thought everyone just did the "fertilizer hoppity jiggle". That is, walk around, bop the spreader around to persuade the material to go towards the holes.

My youtube prowess is failing me right now so I can't find a video that shows what I'm talking about.

This! And if there is alittle left in the spreader when I'm done with the lawn I'll throw the little bit in a flower bed that I think needs it.

For fert? I just fill the hopper and pour the remainder back into the bag when I'm done. Do your pouring over a hard surface so that you can sweep up any spills easily. If you are using small bags, that are a PITA to pour back into, just acquire a bucket with a lid. Joint compound often comes in smaller buckets that are perfect for storing leftovers. Or in my case, a 5-gallon works just fine.

It's best to keep the agitator buried as by the time "the hop" becomes necessary, your app rate has already significantly slowed. I might execute "the hop" at the end of a row just to make it back towards the garage. But if your having to do it mid-pass, it's already too late.
