Hello - I am doing a fall renovation. I've killed off what I've had before and tilled in lime and a week later, a few yards of BIO-COM. I am waiting a few weeks to see if any weeds germinate as a result of my tilling, then I will be putting my seed down. I was using a fescue blend and someone recently recommended Southern Belle as she said it will do well considering the amount of sun that my lawn receives.

I've heard mixed reviews about that seed. I see that Titan RX + Rendition RX in some of the literature I've come across. I am just hearing about Artimuss by Heritage this morning.

I live in Newport News. If there is anyone nearby (Hampton Roads) that would like to share a particular seed that they have used with good results, I am all ears. Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks
Hi @PghPaPat , I am planning for my lawn renovation next year. How did Artimuss come in this spring?

I am currently struggling with a bad poa triv infestation so plan to round up everything in a week or so and live with a dead lawn all summer

I'm in Chesapeake and I will be overseeding with Super Turf 1 from United Seeds. I don't have any previous experience though so... I guess I'm hoping for the best! Mine will be a heavy overseeding (close to new lawn rate 9 or 10 lbs/ksqft) on 10,000 sq ft which I have just finished Pylex applications to start taking my life back from Bermudagrass.

Super Turf 1 has :

4th Millenum SRP TTTF
Dynamite GLS TTTF
Firecracker GLS TTTF
Titanium GLS TTTF
0% weed seed 0% other crop

I'll be following to see how everyone's seeding goes!
@PlanetBeen , I was also thinking about this mix! How did it come in?

I am planning to round up my whole lawn this week due to a poa triv infestation and am thinking about seed in the fall. I am in VB

The Artimuss came in nicely in the farm but this spring, about 90% of my lawn was poa. I've never had poa in my lawn in the 10+ years I've lived here. I introduced three new things to my lawn, one of them or a combination is responsible for the poa, 1) Artimuss seed (0.0% weed), 2) BIO-COM compost, 3) a tiller.

I used round up a few weeks ago to kill, like I said, 90% of my lawn and then a weed eater to remove the dead poa. I spray meso and reseeded yesterday with a fresh bag of Artimuss. The seed company is sure the poa is not from the seed I bought from them, and I am inclined to believe them. So, the compost + tilling introduced poa to my lawn, apparently.

It came in beautifully and I love it! I'm battling Bermudagrass so I'll be treating and overseeding again this fall and I plan to use it again. I will also be using in my front yard where I will be renovating one section at a time.

Here it is this morning. I had other Fescue in the lawn since it was an overseed but the area at the bottom of this picture was bare ground by the time I overseeded (due to my Bermudagrass herbicide treatments) so that is 100% Super Turf 1.

There will probably be a coupon for a discount for the seed as well. Last time I checked the coupon I used it the fall was still active. I can't remember it off the top of my head.

I haven't figured out when I'm going to start my renovation but it may have to be soon. It's going to take a while because I'm mostly on my own doing it. I'm tentatively starting with a 4200sqft section of the front yard. (I have close to 12k just in the main front yard)

I have tons of pictures in my lawn journal if you want to see the condition of the back when I seeded. :)

oh wow- bummer to hear that. I live in Virginia Beach and have some ethofumesate. Apparently that along with me so can prevent a lot of annua. If you want some, let me know you can pick a little bit up to spray on your newly seeded lawn.

Wow, PlanetBeen, I am jealous of your lawn.

I got flooded out last night in portions of my lawn. I think I need to get some compost and topsoil and do some more leveling before I do anything else, unless that rain we got in Newport News was a once in a decade event. I do not remember seeing this much standing water in my yard in the past 12 years or so.

How’s the new bag growing? I’m with you on the POA. I have a ton of it. Not only that the Artimuss isn’t growing. Green yes but not growing at all. I remember my Jonathan green Reno and have pictures documented, this time of the year with the Jonathan I was having to mow it twice a week just to stay on top of it. I haven’t mowed front yard in a week and 80% of it isn’t even at the 3” mark

Well, I took Round-Up to what ended up being about 90% of my lawn to kill off the POA. I reseeded about a month ago and we got some heavy rains that washed some away, so I put down more, and then again, this past weekend. Here are before and after pics.

current situation with my Artimuss. Green but not growing much at all. I have some weeds other than the POA to take care of but don’t want to address them until I start see some growth. And don’t mind the mound area. That is the septic leach area that I haven’t bothered with

I think your lawn looks good, but I don't know how it used to look. I did apply Torocity when I sowed the seed about a month ago. That grass has been mowed twice but I cannot apply a second application because I have added more seed every weekend since so, I suppose I have to wait about a month from now to apply a second application. I have a contact from the company that makes Torocity. He is very responsive to my questions. I will double check with him before I apply the second application.

Years back when I did a Reno, using Jonathan Green this time of the year it was growing so much I was cutting 2x a week. With the Artimuss it’s hardly even 3in tall and hasn’t been mowed in a week. Following the same steps I did during the JG reno
