Hello all!

New to the forum, I've been going in circles researching different lawn equipment so I thought I'd see what others recommend.

We are in Ontario, I think my lawn is a mix of different types of grasses plus a lot of creeping Charlie. We have 3 large dogs so it's a constant battle keeping the lawn decent.

Two years ago I rented an overseeder which did a great job. Last year I brought some dirt in to raise a few spots and seeded that. This year we had some flooding and with the addition of the third dog there's a section that is just mud. I was considering renting the overseeder again but was also debating if it's worth purchasing something since this is going to be a constant battle.

I've looked into dethatchers and scarifiers a bit and am wondering if I used a scarifier and then put seed down if it would give me similar results to an overseeder? Or is an aerator a better choice? Or is it worth paying the money a couple times a year to rent the overseeder?

Thank you!!

Been debating this now for myself. My backyard is cool season but I’d also use it in the front to scarify the bermuda a couple of times a year. The sunjoe does a great job and it’s zero maintenance, but with some fresh blades the slice seeders pulls up more crap than the sunjoe and I wouldn’t have to drag a cord around. You can pick up used slice seeders for about $700 or so in my area. It’s about $85 to rent one, so not bad at all…just hose it off and take it back….don’t have to store it or maintain it. Is it worth the convenience to you to buy one? If you could find a good used one for a good price, I think it’s definitely worth it If you’re going to use it a couple of times a year.

I should actually look to see if there's any used slice seeders, I haven't gotten that far yet. The dethatchers/scarifiers I was looking at were under $300 and it's $105 plus tax to rent a slice seeder in my area. So it would be worth it if I got similar results. It's not a huge yard so I don't think I need anything heavy duty at this point, but just tossing some seed down is not going to be enough.

I will look into the sunjoe ones too, thank you!
