Anyone out there with a JD have a recommendation on a grease gun and type of grease to buy for a 220A. Just bought a used one and need all the things to keep it going.

I use a standard 3oz mini tube gun from home depot for my 260B. It came with a 6" or so nipple, but I wasn't able to get it into a couple zerks down around the drum. I ordered an 18" hose to replace the nipple. I do use the 3oz JD SD polyurea grease tubes, but I get them for very cheap through a connection.

Lock n lube grease guns are great. The locking feature is nice for the tough to reach fittings. If you want to save a little bit of money, get a regular grease gun and just buy the locking tip.

I like marine grease, aka: boat trailer bearing grease, waterproof grease, etc. Good for high-speed bearings, like your reel bearings, but comes with excellent water resistance, which helps on equipment that sees heavy dew and/or frequent washdowns.

Not a commercial guy. I have a Kubota L4701 with a FEL and grapple and a 781KWTi-60. I use a Dewalt DCGG571 battery gun and Lucas Red-N-Tacky.

If you don't have any other use for a grease gun, get a cheapish grease gun full size (amazon/harbor freight) but get the best grease that you can get/find for your mower (JD/lucas heavy duty-geeen one/marine grease).

is that just for the 220E (or QA5 cutting units) that use a different grease for the reel bearings, and polyurea for all the other zerk fittings, correct?

and non 'E' verisions I believe you can get away using just the JD polyurea NLGI 2 grease?

I don't recall the other ones. The manual has the details.

Edit: I checked the manual for the 220ABC and it uses just the JD poly.
