I have some bare spots in a side yard near a river birch that does well beyond when I bought this home. Rocky soil, diggin from underground utilities and heavy erosion... doesn't look awful over there but needs dirt and sand and then an attempt to grow some grass to stop erosion so bad.

Sod place has a bunch of stuff they discount. Couple pallets here or there for cheap. 419 for 75 a pallet cut 4 days ago.

Would this be worthwhile to undertake now? Still warm here in south atlanta but getting cool spells like now slipping to 40s.

I also put down pre emergent ( ronstar g ) a few weeks back. Don't know if that would hinder it.

Thoughts to this? Honestly wouldn't do much prep to ground. Rough up, water. Add some fert sparingly and down it goes. Not a spot I'd mow closely and it would be growing in a tough spot if so.

I've seen bermuda sod put down every month of the year. I have never put it down at this time so I don't have any personal experience to share. It seems to me that in the ATL area, you have about another month before frost sets in. That's time for some roots to develop. I definitely would not use any fertilizer until spring. Basically, it will go dormant just like established grass. Here in north Alabama, they are building a new high school. Our first frost date is about Oct.31. Two weeks ago, they put down bermuda on the new stadium, the practice football field, the baseball field and the softball field. That's a lot of grass --- and a lot of money. I don't think they would have done it with expectation that it would not make it. They are not opening the school until fall of next year.

They just put down 419 at several of the schools in my town in North Texas. It was green going down, but now its looking brown... I have made some transplants in my yard from a new planting bed with very mixed results, but i have not been overly active in giving it TLC (sprinklers go off every Monday AM...). My guess based on all i know about bermuda is it will be fine as long as you feed and water properly. Save some money!
