I have read many articles and forum posts and understand deep infrequent watering is the proper way to water. I have heard people watering once a week. My question is...how can I do this with clay soil? If I water for more than 10 minutes I have puddles in my lawn and have already developed some moss where there is bare patches. Should I be aerating frequently to reduce compaction? If so, how often once a month, couple months? My lawn is just a year old and is still pretty thin and stiff. I live in the PNW and temps are right around 80 degrees now. Any advice would be appreciated.

Have the same crap dirt. Its the dirt they had when the dug the hole to pour the house foundation.
I find that it leads to easier heat stress on the lawn as well. It seems to not hold water as good as a proper soil.

Im interested in opinions on this as well.

Thanks guys! Yard is small so I'm gonna start with manual aerating. Got my dish out to check precipitation level at 10 mins and will adjust my controller. Hope it goes well, will see in a few weeks I guess.
