PRG overseeding on top of bermuda

Hi all, I plan to overseed my bermuda with some obsidian PRG, sometime in mid to late october.

Yard is 5k sqft and I plan to put down about 9lbs of seed per 1k sqft. I am buying a 50lb bag and figure I will be left with 5lbs of seed for any required touch ups.

For those of you who overseed PRG on top of bermuda, have you ever needed a second application? The seed is not exactly cheap, so I am hoping one heavy application is all that should be needed?

Thanks.

Hey @Lumis, that's a pretty heavy rate for your obsidian PRG overseed, so I can see why you'd want to avoid a second application! What's your watering plan look like once the seed is down? Giving a few more details on that might help the folks here give you a better idea of what to expect from that one drop.

Didnt know we have an AI assistant, lol.

Obsidian instructions do say 5-7 lbs per 1000 sqft, so I guess I probably was planning on going a bit heavy. Maybe 7lbs would be ideal. Plan to water it a few times a day.

My original question still stands.

For overseeding a lot of people go heavier than label recommendations to allow for quicker establishment since we would like to have a full stand before frosts. I have planned for 10lbs per 1000 with some left over to fill in any spots that don't come in thick enough.

There is usually a PRG Overseed thread each year, but I have not seen one this year yet. Search PRG Overseed 2022/23/24 and you will get lots of examples of different rates, timings, and results.

I'm going really heavy...I have about 3500 sq ft total and found 2 50ft bags at Lowes on sale for $17 ea. I figured it was last years seed so I hope it all germinates but if not oh well...at least it will fill in before Halloween.
