I feel like every year I get this wrong. Wondering if now is the time to be putting down pre-emergent on lawn. Notice the forsythia is starting to bloom, but not sure if it’s because the unseasonably warm week we just had.

On that note, when would be the proper time to seed sparse areas on lawn? Going to be using tenacity in those areas and not sure if I should wait to apply tenacity and seed together, or do them at separate times.

Thanks in advance

Agreed, you are likely late depending on where you are in NC, at least for crabgrass. See the link I included, and check the crabgrass map. If you can get your hands on a pre-m with dithiopyr (Dimension) it also controls crabgrass when in its very early stages of post emergent growth.

Sorry, but I know not regarding your seeding and Tenacity question, except that the label may answer your seeding question. Keep the pre-m out of these areas to be seeding , but I think you know that ;)

What is your grass type? For warm-season grasses, most people do not seed thin areas; they either promote the grass to spread by a good fertilization program or plug the area or collect runners/sprigs and plant them in the dirt. Depends on grass type and many other factors. There is a reason those areas are struggling.

Yes. Go time. Better early than late. Valentines day is about a normal start date I keep my in my head.
Cannot agree with or stress ^that^ enough - going by Forsythia blooms in my Zone is a FAILURE PATH and at more than 60 years old advice - annd in the face of research by NCSU that certain weed species have “adapted” and are germinating at historically lower soil temps - amounts to an old wives tale.

Valentines Day is now my drop dead date deadline to give the yard a good hard rake and THEN apply pre-em - whether for first of split app.s or recommended max. app. - and has proven 100% successful since I learned (the hard way) to ignore forsythias over a decade ago when we were still in So. MD-Stan …

Also in NC...my lawn pre-emergent was done back in Jan but I just got around to treating all my natural areas with Snapshot this weekend (and a good rain to help).

While applying, I noticed some weeds have already emerged, so how soon can I just spray Roundup on what weeds I can see? Didn't know if that would impact the Snapshot. Thanks!

In Raleigh and I'm already getting greenup in my bermuda. Yikes. Have not applied pre-em yet either....

Wondering if I should forgo prodiamine and purchase some dithiopyr this year in case the crabgrass germination process has started?

Also is it too late for simazine as a kicker for poa? What other options are there at this point to clean up some of the poa breakthru? @Movingshrub advice?

I don’t think simazine on its own will get the poa, but wouldn’t hurt, especially for any crabgrass or other seeds that kicked off germinating.

Are you planning to include anything else in the tank, such as MSM?

As a potentially crazy sounding idea, you could always do a low rate of glyphosate and just delay your green up.
