I'm looking to start my own weeding/feeding. I have roughly 6500-7000 square feet of Tif 419 that was sodded in October of 16'. Beginning Feburary of 17' I hired a local company to take care of the chemical side of my lawn. My intention was just to have professionals handle it for the first year to get a good base going. I'm very happy with the company, they come when they say they are going to, do what they say they are going to do and are easy to get a hold of if I need them to spot spray.
With that being said I have only 2 small spots of crabgrass, they just treated today, and will follow up in the coming weeks. They do 7 applications a year at $71 an application. My issue now is that is pretty high for them to come and spot spray weeds and throw down some nitrogen. So I'm looking to do it myself and could not find any specific threads, I imagine there are some in the lawn journals and was hoping some of you members who have been around a while could point me to those.

On the invoices they list the chemcials used. The chemicals used over those applications include:
Trimec 992
Simazine 90DF and Simazine 4-L
Dithiopyr 2L
Speed zone southern
Certainty
UFLEXX 16-2-3
Fahrenheit
Quinclorac 75 DF

Looking for input on the above chemcials, like are there cheaper generic versions of some of them. Or maybe some other chemicals that would take the place of those mentioned above.

$71 per application can get expensive but you found the right place to have all your questions answered. I would encourage you to first read the "Bermuda Triangle" then the "Bermuda Bible" too, or vice versa.

Then ask away...

I also had no idea about weed control but reading the Bermuda Triangle helped a lot.

Check out this link, https://thelawnforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1077 and click on Bermuda Triangle for weed control. :)

Granted $71 per application is a high price of entry, but when you calculate the entry point for some of the chemicals and equipment, it works out to be a pretty decent price. Barring that, you can get a bag of 38-0-0 or 46-0-0 for $18, and feed your lawn 4-5 times with just N.

Fishnugget gave you good advice on those threads. The only things I can see that you'd need to pick up are Celsius, Certainty, and some Prodiamine. The Dithiopyr is your PreM that they applied, so you can get ahead of the game come Fall and put down your Prodiamine application in the fall to cover you until next Spring. I would ask them, or look at your invoices for the applications of Dithiopyr and the rates to find out if they did a split application in the spring, or if they're planning on coming out to do another application this year.

Another thing is that you could just take control of the spot treatments on your own, and have them do your PreM applications, as that wouldn't be too complicated to manage, and it's very important that you get your timing and rates for your applications correct.

@Colonel K0rn I agree at the first of this year I thought I could probably do it myself then added up all the chemicals used and figured it would take a while for me to save a little money so then decided against it. Then I found this site and gained a little knowledge and noticed just because that is what they use doesn't mean that's what I have to use to maintain a nice yard. Since posting my initial thread, one of my buddies has decided that he wants to do his own as well. He has had less than ideal experiences with three different companies. He lives in a different town, but I see him regularly. So we will be splitting what products we can, he only has about 2k square feet.
They did split the dithiopyr into 2 applications, one spring (april 18') and one fall (oct. 17'). Says applied 4.82 ounces at a rate of 0.73 for 6600 square feet (this is what they estimated and it seems correct from my ability to measure)
