How do you know it's perennial rye?

 

A picture might help someone confirm if it is rye.

 

I filled out the questionnaire on the weed ID thread, that didn't help me much. The grass it's darker in color than the existing ***. the roots are in bunch form, no rhizomes and the underside of the leaf is shiny. The blade is about the same width of the *** too

 

Here it is growing Amongst the Kentucky blue grass, notice the darker color

 

I've had something that looks the same pop up in my yard. I always assumed it was PRG. I just hand pulled the plants and they didn't seem to come up although a few new ones came up here and there. It was nice grass and blended well in terms of leave shape and height but the color was much darker much like yours and looked a bit like a cheetah or something.

Have you over seeded with PRG in the past (maybe even in a mix). I have found PRG germinate years after seeding.

I would just keep hand pulling and you should eventually rid yourself of it.

You explain the same thing I'm like noticing it blends in well with the *** but it's definitely darker the root system is completely different too. I seen it last fall with a four-way *** blend I'd hate to think that there was some PRG mixed in with there. but OK, I'll just keep hand pulling it till I read myself of it. Thanks

Ok, I'll take your word on it @kdn , but what about the shiny leaf underside, and isn't tttf have a wider blade?

 

I'm not 100 percent sure what it is. It could be p rye with the dark color. Unfortunately either hand pulling or spot treating with glyphosate is the only option to get rid of it.

I'm not sure about the shiny underside but some varieties do have thin blades similar to PRG.

One way to tell them apart is the vernation which is the blade arrangement in new shoots. TTTF is rolled whereas PRG is folded and from what I can see in the picture the new shoots look rolled so would be TTTF.
