I’ve had good luck with the greenview biodegradable mulch pellets while seeding bare spots. For a 35# bag/$27 a bag, you can get a lot out of it , if you’re putting down a reasonable layer. I do it by hand and it works out well. Once it’s wet, it has a tackifier and swells up. Keeps the seed well hydrated and holds well to wash out
