I have several bare spots in my front centipede lawn and want to finally fill them in. I bought some Tifblair centipede seed and want to cover the areas that are no more than a few sq feet large. Should I lay some topsoil or compost down and mix into the soil and then spread the seed? I thought about getting the Scott's EZ Patch but thought it would be better to use real seed that is much cheaper by the pound.

If it was me, you could do like I did and sow them into peat pots and when they get a littler larger and tillered out, transplant them into the yard. This way it allows you to keep them in optimal growing conditions (light, moisture, temp) until they're ready to be planted. This will give you the best chance of success rather than sowing seeds into uncertainty. My $0.02.

I used that Scott's EZ Seed Centipede stuff a few years ago. I will say it worked well. However, it's super expensive. I guess you pay for convenience. I think the "mulch" in it was just peat moss. I can't remember though.

I'm interested in how your TifBlair Centipede works out. I'm thinking about buying some.
