Hi,
I am new here and new to lawn care, but I am bringing up to speed myself with lots of reading in this forum (man those LOTM pics are amazing, and shout out to the admins for doing that as a requirement to open the new account) and watching youtube.
I am planning to rent a mantis tiller to do the dethatch and aerate (I have bought the corresponding attachments) on Saturday (in 3 days). Then overseed. Some area of lawn gets full sun but some get partial sun due to some trees. So the seed mix I am planning to use is from Lesco:
Metro mix has 50% Turf-type perennial Ryegrass, 20% Kentucky Bluegrass, 15% creeping red fescue, 15% Chewings fescue.
Sun and Shade park has34% Turf - Type Perennial Ryegrass, 33% Fine Fescues, 33% Shamrock KBG.
Before I do my overseeding, I'd like to "spot" treat with tenacity. I says "spot" in quotes because there are some areas of my lawn that is full of nimblewill. The largest area that they are taking over is about about 100-150 sqft. Please see the attached photo which is just a partial of pic of that problematic area. Personally, that area looks bigger than a spot.
My questions are:
1. What rate should I use for tenacity? The label says that for spot treatment, use 0.5 tsp mixed with 1 gal of water per 1000 sq ft. For regular treatment (I am assuming blanket spray), it says to use 4-8 oz/acre. Based on my turf I have (mix of ***, Ryegrass, Fescue), I need to stay below 5 oz/acre rate. In July, I did a blanket spray using the spot treatment rate (0.5 tsp/gallon)--a newbie mistake. But it did clear some of the clovers, but the nimblewill are coming back now.
2. Can I spray tenacity like 2 days before my overseeding? I read that tenacity can be used as pre/post-emergent and won't affect the existing grass, but will tenacity stop my newly put down grass seeds from sprouting?
3. Considering tenacity, which seed mix should I use? Are there some seeds that don't work well with tenacity? Or should I not do the tenacity at all because I am overseeding?
Any suggestions and pointers are greatly appreciated.
TIA!
