New resilience II vs Super Turf 1

I
I planted 2 plots this spring - 1 with Blue Resilience and 1 with Super Turf II. I believe they have similar or the same TTTF cultivars with a borderline negligible amount of KBG tossed in. They’ve both done incredibly well over the summer heat up here in hot humid northern Illinois.

I would give the edge to the Blue residence though as far as keeping its uniformity and appearance throughout the summer - it hasn’t cracked one bit, while the Super Turf gets a little weird in some areas. The Super Turf appears to be a mix of finer bladed and wider bladed cultivars, which can contribute to a less uniform appearance, IMO. While the Blue Resilience appears to be all fine blade cultivars, making it look a lot more uniform.

That being said - the Blue Resilience is noticeably lighter in color. In this photo you can clearly see the delineation point between the 2 plots (super turf on bottom, blue resilience on top). View attachment 74495

And me being a total sucker for a deep dark green, I would say I prefer the super turf.

I can really admire the uniform fine leaf texture of the Blue Resilience though. I think you can make that out in the pictures. It almost had a matte appearance to it when the super turf had this emerald shimmer that I really like.

Honestly you can’t go wrong with either, but they do have their own strengths and weaknesses.
I have a small plot of super turf 1 in the spring and fall it does get a deep green color in the dog days of summer it's a little funky looking but it's in full sun non irrigated very little nitrogen through the growing season. It does have a weird mix of fine n thick blades but could be it has never been over seeded in 5 years

Yeah, what I’ve noticed is that the finer blades stand more upright whereas the wider blades grow more horizontally and stay darker green, which contributes to its blotchiness in the offseason.

The Resilience has some lighter and darker spots too, but I think it’s less noticeable due to the cultivars in that blend being generally closer to each other in color and texture.
I just remembered when I did the mini renovation with Super turf 1 years ago I also put leftover Summer tall fescue that's a very fine bladed fescue. I don't see it on the market anymore it was here and gone quick. It was a great seed looked like KBG but could survive with limited irrigation and nitrogen
