I'm starting to compare shop new mowers as my old Husqvarna is struggling with the thickness of my grass. I've narrowed it down to the Toro Super Recycler and the Honda HRX2175VKA. The price difference is minimal. Both are 21" cut and rear wheel drive. The main difference is the Honda engine is a 190 and the Toro is a 159. Any advise from current owners of these 2 machines?

I own the HRX17VKA. It's an excellent mower. I don't have any complaints. I use it as a glorified vacuum to suck up clippings. The cuts I have made with it are great though.

I don't have any complaints with it. Both Toro and Honda are great mowers but if the Honda has a larger motor I would be leaning that way. I don't think you can go wrong with either though.

I would suggest purchasing the Honda mower. The Honda GCV engines have a superb record of reliability, and they are made right here in North Carolina about 15 miles from where I live. My neighbors thank you in advance for helping them pay their mortgage and put food on the table :)

The Toro appears to have some sort of random Toro TXP branded engine, probably a chinese clone of some sort. Not to say it's a bad engine, might be fine, but I'd stay away.

Thanks each of you for the advice. I had been leaning towards the Honda for the larger engine. I'm curious about the "dual overlapping blades". Are they mounted directly above each othe in an X look? Surely it doesn't have two blades side by side like the time master.

They're mounted directly on top of each other but not in an X shape. The blades are "bent" in a way that creates a gap between the cutting edges. So the grass is essentially being cut at two different heights at the same time, which helps create smaller clippings.

I own a Toro Super Recycler and I really like it. I feel that the Personal Pace drive system is more convenient than the Honda's. The Toro has zero to very little pull back force while I find the Honda's transmission locks up when trying to pull it backwards. The Honda does have an effective mulching system and so does the Toro. I do like the option to side discharge on the Toro and then go back over and mulch once it dries a bit. This is convenient when I go over my every 3 day mow schedule. I dont believe the Honda has side discharge on it. You cant go wrong with either but I prefer the Toro.
