Just a question of curiosity. I have had my John Deere walk behind mower for some 10 years and I finally replaced the belt that controls the transmission. It was more just maintenance than anything else as the old belt was technically still working just old. Question I have is now when I engage the transmission the bar that you pull is tight compared to before is that just because the old belt was stretched and fairly loose and the new one is tight so it's a little stiffer?

Just trying to figure out if this is something I should worry about or if it is the norm with a new belt.

Yeah, sounds like the old belt was just stretched. Did you compare the two before putting the new one on?

No, just bought the John Deere belt the manual said. Plus I had it installed while being serviced, so I did not install it.
