I have a neighbor with a complete mix of weeds who has asked for some advice on weed management. The grass is a mixture of zoysia and Bermuda, depending on whether it's the front or backyard.

His yard currently has broadleaf weeds, poa annua, lots of sedge and/or kyllinga, as well as crabgrass at the two leaf (pre-tiller) stage.

I think he put out a pre-em but didn't do a great job in terms of coverage. Unfortunately, I don't know the rate or chemical used for the pre-em so I'm slightly hesitant to apply another pre-em.

We are at the point where the temps are going to be a risk (85F+) for three-way amine.

I think the post-em options are going to be Dismiss, Image, or Monument + Celsius or Drive XL8. Part of me also says, F it, put down some prodiamine or dithiopyr just to make sure there's good pre-em coverage, and then follow up with some fert. He does have irrigation.

Input is highly desired, since it isn't my yard.

That doesn't address all the sedge. I am not worried about the poa, but it would be nice to pick off. I am thinking monument since it gets the poa but dismiss is definitely a consideration as well, except it allegedly isn't as effective on as many types of sedge, as monument.

My opinion is pre emegent is 95% of the battle. Two years ago I had so much crab grass and weeds I literally gave up and was like "F-this, I don't care anymore" there was all kinds of broadleaf weeds and dozens of crabgrass heads. Fighting them post emergent was an uphill battle. Then the following March I hammered the yard with Bayer Weed/Feed and an application of Scotts Crabgrass & Weed Control. Dont know whats in them but it reduced weeds by probably 95% and almost eliminated crabgrass totally. Did the same this year. Only place I get weeds now is up against the fence line.

If he has Bermuda I would do a 3 way and Sedgehammer. It might wobble the bermuda a bit but it will bounce back. Still early.

Since you already have Celsius, I'd skip Dismiss and Monument due to overlap. Go with a sedge killer that's either cheapest per app or that you can get affordably up front, like Sedgehammer or Certainty. That will give your neighbor the quick win over the weeds for a boost of confidence, then look at Pre-M in the fall. YMMV.

I have Celsius so I'm more curious about whether to go with dismiss, sledgehammer, or monument for the sedges and whether I need to do quinclorac for the crabgrass.
Was a big user of Monument for many years...until I started using Sulfentrazone (dismiss). Not only did my $/A decrease, but the Sulfentrazone performed better on various sedges. I ding the turf with Sulfentrazone, but it's back in just a few days.

As far as the quniclorac, I have a 25 gallon tank in my cart that has 1 of 2 products in it at any given time - round up or a tank mix of Celsius and Drive. It has a high potential to burn, but it absolutely nukes a broad assortment of grass weeds.

Dismiss plays nice with a much larger population of grass than Monument, so there is that. From a price per app, dismiss is $80 per acre while Monument is $100-150? With that being said, there's always Envoke...

For certainty, it's one 1.25oz- bottle per acre for sedges with possible repeat apps. With dismiss you at least get the pre-em impact for sedges.

Celsius, sedgehammer, 2,4D, fertilizer, water, mow, water some more
I'm concerned about the temps, but this week might be a contender for a three-way herbicide, with the temps ranging between 80F-89F, depending on the day.

I'm planning on a blanket application of Celsius and then spot treating the sedge/kyllinga with the Certainty I have on-hand. The only downside to Celsius is that the kill seems to take forever. Also, it looks like it's going to rain all this week so I see some fast release N source in the near future.
