Exactly what I wonder, because both of mine were fine for the first mow. The dealer told me honda has a 7 day return policy so I was lucky its early season requiring quicker mows which revealed the problem within that 7 day window twice!!

Wow, my issue happened in 5 days but I reported it at day 10. I'm going test it out tomorrow and then 4-5 days later.

I really hope I get one that works. It's got all the features I will want, except for... You know... Starting properly.

Agreed. The only other trouble soot is the autochoke with the thermowax piece but everything else is great except it seizing up LOL.
Connor ward put a manual choke onto his honda. Nothing like modifying a brand new $1000 mower.

Did your dealer try to repair any of those mowers? I can't believe that every HRX is junk, and people just live with it.

Im wondering if a new compression release would fix any of yours, or mine?

@Wolfepack88 could you follow up with the dealer to see if they will repair, or just send em all back to honda? I'll ask my dealer too. He made it sound like they'll fix mine and sell it used.

So if they are able to fix it, maybe that's the best route for you and I if we really want a Honda mower. Meanwhile, regular folk are shaking their heads we would spend $1000 on broken mowers, 🤣🤣🤣

100%. He is supposed to call me today after he speaks with the sales manager. I can't imagine they can sell them new, must have to sell it used after repair. But since within 7 days I could return and the parts were on backorder they were ok giving me a refund since I was pretty annoyed. Now funny thing is the 7 day return (30 for John Deere) isn't posted anywhere. I only found out about that after I called them to try another round of this and I asked what they would do if mine didn't work again and then he said well you have 7 days to return afterwards its yours and we would repair it. So I was 100% lucky that both times this happened within 7 days or I would be stuck waiting on a repair. I'm leaning on maybe going Toro Super Recycler. I guy I watch on youtube for some reviews (Garage Gear) is coming out with a review of it today actually. I had read some engine sputtering comments on a few reviews but otherwise it is considered the superior mulcher. The Honda engine reputation and my first two cuts of the Honda were great which keeps me coming back but I must be stupid because the Honda quality is clearly now a problem. I will let you know what the dealer tells me.

I also really liked the 3/4" lowest HOC so I could chop down my tall grass before I kill it for a reno. I'll be looking for that review. If this is a systemic Honda issue, maybe I'll go Toro as well. I'll let you know what my dealer says too.

Hey, I watched a few deck coating videos from Garage gear!

I have the HRX217 with select speed drive. It does a excellent job cutting grass, mulches really well and bags better than my last mower.
I dont feel like its “vacuuming” up anything more than clippings and leaves on the surface?
So for cleaning up heavy leaves , light sticks and pine cones I have a dedicated lawn vacuum mulcher
Its a inexpensive model from sears/craftsman it is just a lawn mulching vacuum , no hose attachments or chipper side chute. It wotks very well and everything I mulch into its bag goes in the flower beds.
The vacuum I have is not self propelled but I really only use it on about 1/3 acre at best. It makes leaf pick up and mulching a breeze

Honda Customer service saw my review and contacted me via email to learn who my dealer is. Who knows maybe they will actually learn something. Probably CYA but we shall see.
How do I find your review? Can I reply to the review to also let honda know about my situation?

I just went to the Honda website picked the mower and selected write a review. I had an awesome one then wrote a second with a second email detailing the issues. Look at 1 star reviews and sort it by most recent and its like 4 or 5th down by now. You will have to write your own review.

I'm kicking myself for selling my craftsman lawn vacuum 4 years ago. Had the hose and small chipper, it was nice, but I didn't need it with my jd gx345 with powetflow bagger.

Now I wish I kept it.

Just heard from the dealer and they are going to open every remaining mower they have to determine what will need fixing and what may be good. They are going to do it on Monday as its Friday and swamped with getting some units out. So it will be interesting to see what they discover. He did say what doesn't work will be repaired. Once he calls me back on Monday I will ask him specifically what is the part they are repairing. Actually I will email him back on that now.

Its crazy that they are having this many failures, I bought mine last spring and it's been solid, as well as everyone i know that has one. Must have been a huge lot of bad parts.

Dude, much thanks for all your communication. I really appreciate it. It would be great if its the same faulty part for each mower. That's how recalls start, right?

Ok next update, I spoke with the dealer and he said its the camshaft assembly that needs to be replaced. On Monday they are going to open all of their HRX units and warm them up shut them down wait to they cool and then restart. They will go through their whole inventory as they want to identify them now and get them fixed vs having customers go through this. Now that is a top notch way to run a business. I give them kudos for that.

No worries this how it should be, people helping people out. Have a great weekend. Thinking of starting my own Youtube channel to help people out with stuff like this. I retired young so I have time on my hands and love to research stuff before I buy so I have lots of useless information sometimes, Ha!!

Btw Honda has been known to ship out repair kits even before units are sold if they identify things like this. I think they only recall if its a safety issue but that compression snap back is pretty dangerous. It ripped the cord out of my hand so hard it shattered when it iht the catch so it is a lot of force. Shoulder injuries could occur in some people.

Agree I wish I had bought last year. I guy on facebook marketplace one town over was selling one he bought last spring and used for one season and now upgraded to zero turn and was selling. I snoozed and someone snatched it up for $700. Damn!!! Was worried about getting all the warranty stuff transferred and also thinking was he having issues.

Well look at what I just read on another forum site that responded to my posting of thinking it was the compression release mechanism.

"I am a model engineer for Honda Power Equipment. We are experiencing a high volume of HRX "K6" camshaft decompressor failures. I offer this information as a gesture of apology, but I am not here as an official representative of American Honda. I am a fellow lawn mower owner.

We are currently working through a supplier issue, but we are on top of getting replacement parts supply to rectify the situation along with a service bulletin. If anyone has any questions, you are more than welcome to contact me directly, but I am not here officially."
