Had an old dial indicator from my racecar days. Just sone cheap 2" angle steel from home depot and some 1/4 - 20 cap bolts. Works extremely well.

Measured my toro 1600 and it was
.625 left .626 right
Tru cut c27
.589 left .542 right
If you bring the tru cut height adjuster up vs down that changes the height by .30-.50 due to the stacked mfg tolerances. I yanked the bushing off the roller sideplate and got it locked so it cuts the same height.
Need to figure if the bed knife is not square or the roller
.625 left .626 right
