I for one appreciate the honesty. People think Xeon is the end all be all, and I just shake my head knowing what is to come. Especially in our area, I have plenty of people stop to ask about my yard and comment on looking to get zeon. They’ll be sorely let down with all their trees, lack of fungicides, no weekly summer mowing from a company and random inputs, some from dogs!
No doubt that marketing is huge for it in our area and it definitely does look amazing when healthy (I also have many people stop me thinking it's fake and thinking it's some kind of "special grass"), but honestly I think a lot of the extra challenges may be from lower HOCs. It's been interesting/frustrating to watch my neighbor across the street who has a fairly shaded lawn and keeps his zeon probably 2.5 or even 3" tall. He does absolutely nothing at all to it other than rotary mow it a couple times a month and has a spray service. While it may be slower to green up, early to check out and a bit thinner in dense shade it appears to do fine overall and fungus issues don't seem to be as bad. I usually don't mention on here, though, assuming that most on here aren't looking to mow as high as possible and barely do anything at all to it...what fun is that?!
