Lawn:
  • Still using the 26" Jake, it is old but still kicking
  • HOC to start the year is .25", that is what I finished at last year so I just kept it there
  • Backyard is a mess, plan to seed it this spring where the pool and tramp were. Those are not going back up again this year. Keep in mind that I have two big dogs (one female) and that is their area so I try to get the back as nice as possible with that factored in.
  • Some POA spots in the front that I plan to cut out in the spring, they stick out like a sore thumb still.
  • I got everything cleaned up in the lawn on April 11th, first mow was that day.
  • I put some Milorganite down in late March, not even sure why I do that every year. Maybe I just like the smell of it, reminds me that it's almost time to start cutting
  • I got the irrigation opened up this morning.
  • It actually came out of the winter fairly well.
  • I don't have a whole lot planned for the year. I need to level the front in a few spots but that is pretty much it. I will move the hoc up eventually but I think it is fine there for the time being.
  • I probably will not do a lot with the journal this year, but I will post random pics whenever I remember to take them.

Pond:
  • Redid the duck house and feeding platform. I wasn't sure if I would get another year out of the duck house, but I put new flooring in there and it is good as new.
  • Put a camera on the feeding platform so I can watch the pond activity from my office during work. Great addition this year, I love it
  • Upgraded the solar lights on the house and put lights on the platform.
  • We got everything put out in the pond for the year on the 6th...it took all of 5 minutes for the first ducks to hit up the feeding platform. Nice to have everything back out after the winter.

Front is about as good as it is going to get so I am just going to take the rest of the summer off. I mowed against the grain yesterday to get rid of the stragglers and it is looking pretty good. I absolutely love it at this height, I will probably keep it here for most of the summer. The back is starting to fill in, the pool area is still pretty rough though. A lot of urine spots also, but that is fine. I will grab a pic next time I am dorking around back there.

New blade on the edger tonight, apparently I needed a new one!

I added some trees to side of the back patio for additional privacy, and a few more arborvitae around the fire pit to enclose it more. I like how it turned out.

Pond:
Added 50 bass, 300 bluegill, 50 warmouth, and 50 bullfrog tadpoles. I am giving the fish one more chance with the notion that everything back there, besides the ducks are trying to kill the fish! Below are a few recent pics of the pond action.

Heron on the feeding platform, I love the camera back there!

Belted Kingfisher, this is fun to watch, other than it eating the fish.
