Every year around May 1, my fescue lightens throughout the lawn. We have had nearly ideal growing conditions this year, with overall cool temps and just the right about of rain.
I have professional lawn care apply need nitrogen and weed treatments. The color change never coincides with any particular treatment - it just turns lighter as spring progresses and it looks less attractive and healthy.
My turf is extremely thick this year (I posted earlier about my good results from prior fall overseeding with Falcon IV) and is growing very fast.
I mow at 4.5 - 5 inches year 'round and return the clippings to the soil.
Is it the new plants that are pushing up in the turf?
Things generally settle down by summer, with the lawn taking on a darker green appearance overall.
Sorry for no photos - I am sitting at my desk at work.
